Park Boulevard/Stanford Ave Bicycle Boulevard
The existing Park Boulevard Bicycle Boulevard begins in North Palo Alto at Palo Alto High School via Castilleja Avenue and continues south terminating at the Oregon Expressway Overpass. The project will both evaluate the existing bicycle boulevard and provide an extension to Charleston Road. The Park Boulevard Bicycle Boulevard is the City’s second highest bicycle corridor behind the Bryant Street Bicycle Boulevard. The route services students as well as commuter bicyclists and provides a direct connection to the California Avenue Business District. The project includes Stanford Avenue between Park Boulevard and El Camino Real. The Park Boulevard Bicycle Boulevard project will include traffic calming measures, enhanced bicycle and pedestrian facilities, as well as bicycle boulevard branding signage.
The Park Boulevard Bicycle Boulevard project received City Council policy approval of the Concept Plan in August 2015. Final design is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2016, with construction beginning later in 2016.
Visitors enjoyed a demonstration two-way cycle track on April 10th. Held on Park Boulevard between Grant Avenue and California Avenue, the demonstration allowed Palo Alto bicycle riders to experience the cycle track and provide feedback. Volunteers placed planters and temporary striping, and helped to explain the project to visitors. Thanks to all who tried the Pop-up Protected Bikeway!
